Start with the qualification and subject, then compare price, travel and board coverage. Neutral JCQ listings are useful for distance but still need a direct availability check.

How it works

Choose an exam, compare the options, then confirm with the centre.

1

Choose the exam

Pick your qualification, series, subject and exam board. A-level resits are currently focused on clean written-paper subjects.

2

Compare the trade-offs

See published fees beside location, deadline information and what the quoted price actually covers.

3

Confirm at the source

Follow the centre's own page. Check availability, your specification code and the final total before you pay.

Methodology & sources

Prices are only useful when the comparison is honest.

ExamCompare distinguishes between whole-subject fees, per-paper fees and listings where a centre publishes availability but not a usable price. Those figures are not treated as equivalent.

For A-level resits, the first release focuses on Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Psychology, Economics, Business and Sociology. Subjects involving practical endorsements, speaking tests or NEA need extra logic before they can be compared safely.

Sources were checked on 2 September 2026. JCQ says its directory is updated annually and warns that listed centres may no longer accept candidates. Centre fees can change and seats can disappear before a published deadline.

Before you pay

Five things to confirm with the centre

  1. Exact qualification and specification code. “AQA Maths” is not enough if the wrong code is entered.
  2. Every paper is included. Confirm the displayed fee is for the full subject, unless it is explicitly marked per paper.
  3. Coursework, NEA, practical or speaking requirements. These can materially change the cost and whether the centre can accept you.
  4. The centre's own deadline. Internal cut-offs can be earlier than awarding-body deadlines.
  5. The final total in writing. Ask about late fees, access-arrangement fees and any compulsory administration charges.
