Check acceptance before booking. Level 2 is widely accepted as an alternative to GCSE grade 4, but it is not accepted for every course, employer or regulated profession. Ask the organisation requiring the qualification, then confirm the awarding body and full checkout total.

Before you pay

Three things to check before booking.

Confirm it will be accepted

Ask the university, employer, apprenticeship or training provider that requires the qualification. Do not rely on a general equivalency claim.

Check the complete English total

English requires Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communicating. Check that your booking includes all three.

Check remote-exam equipment

Online providers differ on Macs, Chromebooks, second devices, browser software, room scans and connection speeds. Check compatibility before paying.

Common questions

What private candidates need to know.

Can I book an exam without buying a course?

Yes. These prices are for exams without a tuition course.

Can I sit the exam online at home?

Yes, with providers offering remote invigilation. Read the equipment, identification, room and operating-system rules before booking.

Is Level 2 the same as a GCSE?

It sits at the same RQF level as GCSE grades 4 to 9 and is accepted by many organisations as an alternative. Acceptance still varies, so confirm it with the organisation you are applying to.

Why can English cost more than Maths?

English normally has Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communicating components. A low-looking fee may cover only part of the qualification.
